Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)

Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)

What is Golfer’s Elbow?

Golfer’s elbow, also known as medial epicondylitis, is a condition that causes pain and inflammation where the tendons of the forearm muscles attach to the bony bump on the inside of the elbow. Despite its name, this condition is not limited to golfers. It can affect anyone who performs repetitive wrist or arm motions, including weightlifters, climbers, and manual laborers.

This overuse injury develops gradually, often starting with mild discomfort during activity that worsens over time.

Symptoms of Golfer’s Elbow

  • Pain and tenderness on the inside of the elbow
  • Stiffness or reduced flexibility in the elbow
  • Weakness in the hand or wrist
  • Pain that worsens with gripping or lifting
  • Numbness or tingling that radiates into the fingers

Hecker Sports Medicine’s Approach

At Hecker Sports Medicine™, we focus on personalized, non-surgical care. Dr. Hecker begins with a detailed evaluation to identify the root cause of your pain. Whether it is related to poor mechanics, posture, or muscle imbalance, our goal is to help you heal without invasive procedures.

We develop custom treatment plans that are designed around your lifestyle and activity level. Our team works with you to reduce pain, restore strength, and prevent recurrence, all while helping you remain as active as possible.

Traditional Non-Surgical Treatment Options

  • Activity modification to reduce repetitive strain
  • Ice and anti-inflammatory care
  • Targeted physical therapy for tendon strength and flexibility
  • Forearm bracing or taping for support
  • Evaluation of biomechanics and grip technique

Advanced Treatment for Golfer’s Elbow

If symptoms are slow to resolve, we offer advanced non-surgical treatments to promote healing and support long-term tendon health:

  • Shockwave therapy to stimulate tissue repair, eliminate/prevent scar tissue
  • Optical therapeutic laser to reduce inflammation and accelerate healing via cell stimulus
  • Medical foods to support tendon recovery and reduce inflammation from within
  • Electrical stimulation therapy to help increase neuromuscular activity and manage any secondary nerve pain

These safe, non-invasive options help patients return to daily activities and hobbies without surgery.
