Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative Medicine

Hecker Sports and Regenerative Medicine is doing more that just helping to make a body better or building a better scar; we’re restoring the tissue back to its whole, how it was originally intended to function.

What is Regenerative Medicine?

Hecker Sports and Regenerative Medicine utilizes what your body can innately do and stimulate it in a very powerful way that will help it recover. We’re not talking about recovery as in post surgery or post injury where one's body repairs and fills with more fibrous tissue or scar tissue. Rather we help a body repair in a way encourages full regeneration and complete restoration of tissue.

 How does it work?

We accomplish regeneration or restoring tissue back to its whole through a process. One simple injection doesn’t necessarily do it; rather it is a process of stimulating tissue that has sustained an injury, whether acutely or chronically to prep itself to recover in a 'whole' way. Then, we intervene with a grafting that is performed through injections of tissue called an "extracellular matrix." Regenerative medicine creates a stimulating factor in one's body, telling it to start to recover in an appropriate way, helping to restore tissue to being whole.

The Regenerative Protocol

  • Evaluation of injury by physical exam
  • Imaging: X-ray, CT, diagnostic ultrasound, MRI to determine significance of injured structures
  • Temporary stabilization of structure using orthotics, bracing devices, or cam walker boot

Regenerative treatments include:

  • Piezoelectric impulse
  • Laser light therapy
  • Regenerative Injection
  • Hypertonic dextrose solution - Prolotherapy
  • Amniotic tissue matrix

How much does it cost?

The procedures we offer at Hecker Sports and Regenerative Medicine are comparatively inexpensive and are much more complete having a substantial recovery than other treatments. There are a lot of people who are not good candidates for surgery simply because of where they are in life, like having to take three months off for surgery. Our protocols allow patients to recover well without necessarily having to take time off of work. We are here to get patients better in the midst of doing “life”. Thomas Hecker DPM has a mission: to bring techniques and opportunities to people that are less expensive than conventional procedures, require less downtime, yet still offer the ability for very successful and very high-end recovery.

What made you interested in pursuing regenerative medicine?

I suffered from a pretty severe ankle injury more than 11 years ago, so the process started with playing football and hurting my ankle when I was in high school and college. My ankle wasn’t in good shape, but it was functional. Then, 11 years ago I was out snowshoeing with some friends, and I went down this ravine and my snowshoe became caught and my ankle rotated underneath my body. I crushed my ankle bone and tore the ligaments structure of my ankle significantly. After that injury I had access to many top notch surgeons, some of the nation’s best foot and ankle doctors and all of them advised me that the processes that we were looking at regarding regenerative medicine are not only exceedingly effective, but they have a high success rate and aren’t harmful. There’s no way that we can make the tissue worse. There’s no way that we can set you up for more difficulties. We endeavor to establish significantly repaired, healed tissue. In the process of evaluating all that’s out there this is what has allowed me to get to a point to say this is what works.
